Zoom Maroon™
The alternate ride on Friday is from the City of Aspen or the Buttermilk parking lot up the Maroon Creek Road towards Pyramid Peak and the Maroon Bells. Once considered a prominent stage for the Coors Classic bicycle race, this steady uphill ride to Maroon Lake covers about 15 miles on a smooth paved road. No motorized vehicles, local or otherwise, are permitted during the summer months beyond the Lazy 7 Ranch except for fee-based shuttle buses departing from the base of Highlands. The cost of the shuttle is $6 for Adults and $3.50 for children ages 6-16 and seniors. Service begins at 9:00 AM and runs every 20 minutes until 2:00 PM then every 30 minutes until 4:30 PM.
A greeting celebration is always available back at Paepcke Park in Aspen. Excitement will be created using either a local band or deejay plus several booths filled with drinks and snacks. Also, a secure bicycle storage area or the means to lock up personal equipment is made available so that participants can take time to enjoy spending free time around the lake or hiking on trail without worrying. The ride back to town is at your leisure.
