Description: Ride de Rio (aka Rio Grande) is a popular trail of paved and unpaved paths rated as easy difficulty with heavy use. The distance to Woody Creek is 7 miles (11.3 km) one way with 2 miles paved. The beginning elevation is 7,900 feet (2408 m) decending 558 feet.
Narrative: The first 2 miles are paved and follow the Roaring Fork River. The trail crosses under Cemetery Lane to the unpaved portion on the other side of Slaughterhouse Bridge and continues to follow the old railroad bed. Cross over McLain Flats Road and continue on the trail to Woody Creek Tavern.
Access: From Main Street in Aspen, turn North onto Mill Street and left onto Puppy Smith Road at the 4-way stop. The trailhead is across from the Post Office. |
