Several FREE and MEMORABLE dirt rides within the Roaring Fork Valley await you pedalers. The list of unorganized or "On Your Own" activities varies by length, riding surface, elevation gain, and technical ratings. Whether you are a climber who prefers the steeps of a challenging jeep road or the marathoner who relishes miles and miles of singletrack makes no matter: our staff has hand-picked out several that will be just right for you. Just remember to look around at the scenic vistas and enjoy your companions!

There are no mountain events or competitions for you to enter this year. For the sake of those visiting the area for the first time, we will be placing Spinheads (giant, 10-ft. high stick figures with a bicycle wheel for its head) along the bike paths and at key intersections to help direct you to the beginning of the singletrack or dirt road. We do not want you to spin your wheels in circles just trying to find the trailhead or even worse, ending up riding on a wrong trail that is designated for hikers only.
Should there be some question as to which painted Spinhead points the way to a certain ride, look for the same color and match it to the one provided by an attendant at an information booth located in Paepcke Park. We will also do our utmost have a member of our staff mark key ride distances or turning points along each route. Periodic trail sweeps will be done as a matter of true hospitality!
Please keep in mind that portions of the Roaring Fork Valley are likely to be a bit higher in elevation than where you normally ride. This altitude can play a big factor in terms of your strength and duration and we would prefer that you stay in one piece to enjoy the nightlife.
