Basalt Assault™
The name of this event was created simply to provide something catchy and memorable for its participants, rather than its description as something hardcore. This fun spinning event is designed for the more casual bicyclist who seek a scenic ride to enjoy with their friends, new riders or family members with only a few local cars. Road, mountain or cruiser bicycles are appropriate as riders pedal along side the Frying Pan River and past the dam up to Reudi Reservoir.
The first half of this 33 or 66-mile ride is a steady, but gradual uphill climb to the Reservoir and the RestFest™ located at the Boat Ramp area. Here the celebration with music, snacks and refreshments begins because your ride home is all downhill accompanied by a late afternoon breeze coming up the canyon.
Should you still feel strong and interested in more spinning time after your stop at the RestFest™, you can continue your ride around the reservoir on a clean road towards Mount Massive. This out-and-back option alone can easily add another 30 miles to your distance total and a second visit back to the party at the Boat Ramp before heading back to Basalt for even more festivities.
Centaspin™
This is the hardcore century ride (106 miles) for you diehards. Rather than starting in Basalt, this ride begins 26 miles away in Aspen before picking up the Basalt Assault™ route. The added distance will seem like nothing early in the day because it is all downhill on smooth, clean roads to Basalt before making the climb past Reudi Reservoir to the end of pavement near the base of Mount Massive. Sparse traffic exists and the local residents are very courteous to bicyclists. |

Mass to Massive™
This is the essentially the same ride as the Centaspin™ except this century ride (100 miles) begins in Snowmass Village before picking up the route at Intercept Parking Lot located at Highway 82 and Brush Creek. We certainly hope you have some legs and take some time to enjoy the festivities located at the Boat Ramp RestFest™ because the last 18 miles of this non-timed journey has about 1,800 feet in elevation gain. Also, you better be hearty and bring your own fan clubs because the main folks around to cheer you to the finish at Snowmass Village is a large group of mountain bikers!!!
